Thrombotech Ltd., a biopharmaceutical company, is developing a drug to make the treatment of strokes both radically safer and far more effective. The company has developed the peptide THR-18 which is administered alongside existing stroke treatments. The current drug administered to stroke patients, Tissue Plasminogen Activator, or tPA, exposes patients to the risk of brain hemorrhage during treatment, and only allows for a three-hour therapeutic time window. By dramatically reducing tPA’s negative side effects, markedly extending the therapeutic time window to potentially nine hours, and addressing needs that tPA currently leaves unmet, THR-18 has the power to save millions of lives and cut medical costs tremendously.

THR-18’s unique mechanism of action and experimental evidence suggest that it may also be effective against heart attacks, traumatic brain injury; lung embolisms; and occluded arteries and veins in the legs and arms.
